Good Tutor in Dubai: watch out!

How to Spot a Good Tutor in Dubai?

Tutoring is the need of the hour in Dubai given the pathetic teaching standards in the schools in Dubai. Students and parents franctically search for tutors online and offline. The search intensifies as the exams approach. The most important aspect that a parent/student has to keep in mind regarding tutoring is that it is a supplemental education support. Tutoring should not be considered as an alternative to school teaching.

Fundamentally, tutoring is a good academic support for a student who wants to excel in academics. But there are a few things one should note before hiring a tutor. As per KHDA rules (Knowledge & Human Development Authority) which is the nodal regulator for education sector in Dubai, private tutoring is ILLEGAL. They have point. There have been many instances when so called private tutors have exploited the parents and students by ripping them off by overcharging.

There are security concerns especially when you hire a tutor who's not known to you, not on your sponsorship etc. This is violation of immigration rules.Dubai Police have recently suggested parents NOT to hire private tutors in their homes. Many cases of abuse have taken place, robbery and other security concerns have prompted authorities to issue stern warnings.

The other aspect and which is the most important issue, is that of the quality / qualifications of the tutor.

A few tips to spot a good tutor are:

1) Check his license. Every tutor must be licensed. He/She must be registered with Dubai Knowledge Village and must have a tutoring license. To get a license from Dubai Knowledge Village, the tutor has to submit all his credentials and this way his qualifications are checked.

2) Visit the tutor's office / center to cross check if the information provided by him is true

3) Check his past experience in teaching students by way of references or otherwise

4) Preferably, send your child to a safe and secure place such as Knowledge Village. Tutors are licensed in this place and that can take care of points 1 to 3 mentioned above.

5) Try to accomodate your child in small groups. NEVER allow INDIVIDUAL Lessons.

Safety comes first for you as a parent whose most precious gift is your child.
